Celebrating Sussex Reserve

Celebrating Sussex Reserve

When the Gladwin Family first came to Nutbourne they inherited the 1990 vintage in the winery. The juice from each Germanic grape variety had been fermented in a separate tank, so Peter and Bridget Gladwin could have bottled six different wines - Bacchus, Reichensteiner, Huxelrebe, Gutenborner, Schonburger and Mullter-Thurgau. Instead, they decided to combine them and make the first vintage of Sussex Reserve, which 35 years later is still our estate's iconic field blend.

"A taste of the English countryside", Sussex Reserve is a fresh, aromatic dry white wine produced from grape to glass at the single estate vineyard and winery in West Sussex.

The grapes come from both old and new plantings - Germanic Riesling-style varieties from 45 year old vines are co-fermented with the French varieties Pinot Noir & Pinot Gris. The fruit, aromatics and depth of flavour come from this unique blend that captures the essence of our terroir.

We're raising a glass to this wonderful tipple at our Local & Wild London restaurants, where it's wine of the month, served in green-stemmed hock glasses. The original painting featured on the bottle labels of "The Vine in Winter" by Bridget Gladwin is also on display at our local wine merchants - Hennings in Pulborough. Pop along to have a look and pick up a bottle to try.
