New Release: Bacchus 2019
Get ready for Bacchanalian celebrations
For the 2019 vintage of our Bacchus we’ve produced a new label,
which features a wonderful painting of Albert Bridge at night by Bridget Gladwin.
This outstanding dry white wine made from 100% Bacchus grapes is crisp, fresh and enticing.
It has a distinctive elderflower bouquet, with delicate gooseberries and a botanical aromatic finish.
Named after the Greek wine god of grape-harvest, winemaking and wine,
Bacchus is fast becoming the signature varietal for English still white wine –
a modern crossbred grape variety developed to produce attractive, fruity single varietal wines,
that have been described as the perfect aperitif by Decanter.
A reliable grape that can be planted and thrive where Riesling might struggle,
Bacchus is capable of producing powerful flavours and an “exuberant” character
with aromatic, leafy gooseberry greenness and citrus notes when fully ripened.
The cooler climates of England and Wales can lift the acidity of Bacchus
and it has been touted as our country’s answer to Sauvignon Blanc.
When it comes to food pairings for this wine, we like to follow the Gladwin philosophy of
“what grows together goes together” – we think it goes beautifully with
English asparagus, heritage tomatoes, Sussex lamb and stone-fruit desserts.
The new label will be available from our cellar door and online shop on March 16th – Bacchus Day!
